Abri, Berkeley Homes, Homes England and The Land Trust came together to celebrate the key milestones accomplished at Sunninghill Square and Sunningdale Park in Ascot, over the last 12 months – to include the delivery of the SANG at Sunningdale Park and the handover of the final phase of affordable homes in the Borough.
Spanning 79 acres of historic land with 42 acres of country park, Sunningdale Park features a Grade II Registered Park, Pleasure Grounds, Parkland and Woodland, which due to private ownership, were inaccessible to the public for centuries.
Since acquiring the land in partnership with the Cabinet Office, Berkeley has been working with The Land Trust, in consultation with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) council, to create approximately 19 hectares of Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space (SANG).
Designed in accordance with Natural England’s ‘Guidelines for the creation of Suitable Accessible Natural Green Space’, the SANG at Sunningdale Park now provides an extensive new area of public open space for all residents and everyone in the locality to enjoy.
Frederick Hill, Head of Development, Berkeley Homes, comments: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate the excellent progress we have achieved in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead with key partners, who have played an important role in the evolution of these two landmark developments.
“It was our privilege to be able to show members of Homes England, following the extensive restorations undertaken at Sunningdale Park, how working with The Land Trust we have unlocked this underused site and opened up the gardens to local residents, to enable them to enjoy the acres of historic parkland once more.”
Berkeley has also recently completed the last phase of affordable homes, which have now been delivered to Abri. Forty-one properties, located in Mackenzie House, Sunningdale Park, brings the total of affordable homes delivered across the two Ascot developments to sixty-four apartments - a mix of one and two bedrooms - available to buy through the government-backed Shared Ownership scheme.
“Thanks to Abri, purchasers now have the opportunity to get their foot on the property ladder and enjoy the exceptional lifestyle on offer in this highly sought after Borough.”
Sam Stone, Director of Land and Planning at Abri said: “Our heartfelt thanks goes to the dedication of all our partners for helping build these affordable homes. By working together we’ve all made a difference for the benefit of the community.
“Abri is committed to building 10,000 homes by 2030 and it’s developments like this which highlight that affordable homes can be delivered without sacrificing quality. Sunninghill Square and Sunningdale Park are exemplary examples of good quality homes, and we hope that they provide not just a place to live, but a foundation for security, opportunity and a sustainable future.”
